First responders are faced with a myriad of stressors that go beyond what the general population may experience. The phrase “fit for duty” for first responders has historically only accounted for good physical health for the duties related to one’s job. However, recent evidence-based research indicates that maintaining one’s behavioral health is equally important.
The effects of first responder stress events can factor in behavioral health issues such as post-traumatic stress disorder, substance abuse, and depression. Resources available today address the unique stressors related to first responders and build on the strengths of first responders, including a sense of belonging, support from one another and a strong sense of purpose.

Peer Support Program
The Peer Support Program provides employees with the opportunity for immediate peer support and assistance through times of personal or professional crisis. Specially trained fellow employees (Peer Supporters) work in conjunction with a designated Mental Health Professional (MHP).

Emergence Health Network Establishes the Community Recovery Center (CRC.)
The CRC was specifically developed to address the emotional needs of the El Paso Community following the event on August 3, 2019. This center is for first responders who assisted our residents that day, and for any family or individuals who would like to speak to a behavioral health professional about their concerns regarding this tragic incident.
