Lieutenant Ruben Flores was born on October 7, 1965 and passed away on January 9, 2021 at the age of 55. He joined the Fire Department June of 1989 and retired March 2015. He was a lifelong resident of El Paso, devoted family man and a man driven by his faith in god. He began his career as a spirited firefighter in Battalion 2, he promoted to P6 as a Fire Suppression Technician and then through hard work and devotion made Lieutenant on P18. Lieutenant Ruben Flores suffered extensive injuries while on an emergency incident September 29, 2001 that almost ended his career. We were lucky that through his personal strength and support of his family, he was able to return to work and continue his career until retirement from the Logistics division. After his retirement Lieutenant Ruben Flores went on to work with the University of Texas at El Paso and was attending St. Thomas University pursuing his Theology Degree and was looking forward to being ordained later this year. Lieutenant Ruben Flores is survived by his wife of 35 years, Beckie Flores, three children, Garron Flores, Selina Flores, and Ruben S. Flores, mother Guadalupe Flores, his sister Becky Duron and 5 brothers including Lieutenant Raymundo Flores. Lieutenant Ruben Flores loved spending time with all his family and cherished his three grandchildren Messina Flores, Alina Solano, and Harlee Rose Flores. He enjoyed hunting fishing, camping and the special bond he had with his Yorkie Gabby.
Due to COVID restrictions attendance at the Funeral home, and services at the cemetery is limited to 10 family members only. Visitation will be held on January the 20th at Hillcrest Funeral Home 1060 N Carolina Dr, El Paso, TX 79915 will be from 0900-1000 with the Rosary to immediately following family visitation. Ruben will leave Hillcrest Funeral Home and be escorted by P18 to Mt. Carmel Cemetery 401 S. Zaragosa Rd. where he will be laid to rest after a service that will begin at 12:30.
The funeral route for Lieutenant Flores will begin at Hillcrest Funeral Home at 1060 N. Carolina and proceed South on Yarbrough to Alameda. On Alameda the procession will go East on Alameda to South Zaragoza. The procession will then head South on S. Zaragoza to Mt. Carmel Cemetery located a 401 S. Zaragoza.
The procession will leave the funeral home at approximately 12:00.
A condolence drive-by at 401 S. Zaragoza will be open to the public from 13:00 to 13:30.
