Last Alarm: Fire Medic Joseph R. Groves

Retired Fire Medic, Joseph “Joe” Richard Groves, passed away peacefully in his home on December 3, 2021. He was surrounded by his 101-year-old mother and his closest friends.

He was an active member of the Boy Scouts Yucca Troop at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. During his senior year, “Joe” earned the Eagle Scout Award and 21 badges at Irving High School, for the project of building the flag pole in front of the Blessed Sacrament Church on Diana.

He attended Baylor University in Waco, TX to become a doctor. His passion led him back home, in El Paso, Texas to join his brothers and sisters as a paramedic with the El Paso Fire Department.

He honorably served his community, city and state for thirty years and five months, from April 5, 1982 to September 21, 2012 when he retired due to cardiac problems.

“Joe” was a smart, intelligent and great son to his mother, a phenomenal friend and an impressive mentor with an exceptionally high level of knowledge, great personality and a great sense of humor. He always put a smile on his family and friends’ faces, and always kept those close to him smiling and happy.

“Joe” will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all those who knew him and loved him.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the charity of your choice will be highly appreciated.
