Last week, seven members of the El Paso Fire Department, who volunteered and were selected to participate in the Texas Region 4 All-Hazards Incident Management Team (IMT), attended the MGT314-Enhanced All-Hazards Incident Management/Unified Command Course. This DHS/FEMA certified training was hosted by the Texas A&M Forest Service and TEEX at the National Emergency Response and Recovery Training Center/Emergency Operations Training Center in College Station, TX. This training also included personnel from various agencies all over Texas, and throughout the nation.
Battalion Chief Kevin Dieter, Captains James Younger & Fernando Zeh, Lieutenants Chris Carson, Robert Jones, & Moises Martinez, and FST Jay Nicholson spent the week brushing up on various IMT duties and responsibilities learned in previous courses. These included command & coordination, resource management, communications, and information management. This culminated in an all-day exercise where all of the participant’s knowledge and skills were put to the test. Each member acknowledged that this course really brought together the concepts learned in previous training, and better prepared them to assume roles within the IMT.
