Last Alarm: FST Hugh Pittman

Fire Suppression Technician Hugh M. Pittman, age 87, passed away Wednesday April 26, 2023. Hugh was born in Tucumcari, NM, later moving to El Paso, TX where he graduated from Austin High School in 1954 and met his wife, Bettie Bennett.  Together, they had 3 children but divorced in 1961. In 1961 he met his wife of 57 years and her 3 daughters. Hugh and Minnie married in February 1962 and together they had 2 more children, completing their “blended” family.  FST Pittman joined the El Paso Fire Department November 24, 1958, and retired from Station 19 March 24, 1985, after 26 years of service. Hugh then worked for the El Paso City Restitution Center, retiring in 2004. 

FST Hugh Pittman is survived by his children: Kathleen Sukon, Rose Sigler, Deborah Barney, Hugh Pittman Jr., Donna Wallace, Susan Pittman-Butler, and Thomas Pittman. He was preceded in death by his wife Minnie T. Pittman, his daughter Debbie Pullin, and his grandson Christopher Sukon. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and two stepbrothers. 

A Memorial Service will be Saturday, June 3, 2023, at 10:30 AM at San Jose Funeral Home, 10950 Pellicano Dr. The El Paso Fire Department will be conducting the memorial service, with Chaplain Kevin Mende officiating.  In lieu of flowers, please donate to the American Heart Association or American Lung Association.
