Last week, FST Art Cordova, FST Pascual Mendoza, and FST Rene Ochoa graduated from the Basic Peace Officer Course with the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.
The graduating class was composed of personnel from the Hudspeth County Sheriff’s Office, the El Paso Fire Department, Horizon City PD, and the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office. The 28 candidates that made up class 22-01 completed a rigorous 26-week curriculum that included physical training, Texas Penal Code, arrest procedures, self-defense, and many other subjects.
These new Peace Officers will continue with their training to become certified as Investigators and Inspectors, allowing them to better serve the El Paso Fire Department and the citizens of El Paso.
Sheriff Richard Wiles presided over the graduation ceremony attended by numerous dignitaries from throughout the El Paso community including State Representative Mary Gonzalez, newly-appointed El Paso District Attorney Bill Hicks, Horizon City Police Chief Marco Vargas, and newly-appointed El Paso Fire Department Fire Chief Jonathan Killings.
